Veterinarian
Description: healthcare of pets, livestock, and other animals; protect people against diseases carried by animals and do clinical research on health problems. Basic research, broadening the scope of knowledge, and in applied research, developing new ways to use knowledge.
Training: 4 yr grad school
Hours: 50+ per week. on call 24/7
Pay: $47,020 to $84,220 annually (middle 50%)
Pros: good shot at my own practice! working with all sorts of animals
Cons: long demanding hours. little vacation opportunity. chemistry.... high competition
Physician- Pediatrician
Description: Diagnose illnesses and prescribe and administer treatment for people suffering from injury or disease. Physicians examine patients, obtain medical histories, and order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests. They counsel patients on diet, hygiene, and preventive healthcare.
Training: 3-8 yr internship/residency
Hours
: long, irregular. could be 60 hrs/wk
Pay: $120,000 - $240,000 (middle 50%)
Pros: challenging. get to help people.
Cons: long demanding hours. chemistry.... high competition. expensive, lots of pressure.
Herpetologist
Description: study ecology and herp relationships and herp behavior, how they adapt to environmental changes, etc.
Training: PH.D for individul research. Must at least have Master's
Hours: regular, usually. field trips!
Pay: ~$50,000/yr (median)
Pros: excitement, curiosity, getting to find things out myself.
Cons: lots of schooling (expenses), maybe some med school. very competitive for positions, probably need to do paperwork for grants or other work on the side.
Marine Biologist/Wildlife Biologist

Description: manage and explain the surrounding area's natural history to people. May keep the peace among visitors.
Lead hikes and teach people in a fun exciting way about the land and animals they see
Training: 4 yr degree
Hours: ~40/wk
Pay: $22,000 - 26,000 annually (average)
Pros: get to work outdoors most of the time and teach people about their world.
Cons: sometimes people can be annoying. some desk work. finances.
Zookeeper
Description: prepare food and clean the enclosures of animals, and may help raise young. They watch for signs of illness or injury, monitor eating patterns or any changes in behavior, and record their observations. Keepers also may answer questions and ensure that the visiting public behaves responsibly.
Training: on the job
Hours: daily and irregular, ~40/wk
Pay: $13,478 to $19,947 annually
Pros: get to work with animals
Cons: can be quite stressful, hard work taking care of all those animals, can be dangerous
