The Fae People

The fae people of Rinara include the Rinaran elves, the Rinaran faeries, the Rinaran nymphs, the Rinaran sprites, and the Rinaran dryads. You may ask what the difference is between all of these. That is what I am here to explain.

Elves you have most likely heard about. You know, the ears, etc. Rinaran elves can blend in with the forest like a wolf, and they see almost everything that enters Rinara. They aren't as peaceful as the Rinaryns- in fact, they like being their guardians because it makes them feel important- which they are. The Rinaran elves intercept anything they have the slightest suspicion of, protecting the Rinaryns as they do so. They have no stone buildings- only the wood of the trees in and around which they live. They stand about the height of a typical Rinaryn, but a shade taller.

Faeries you have also most likely heard about. They are sometimes spelled "fairies". The Rinaran faeries are smaller than the elves- smaller than the Rinaryns, even. They have beautiful gossamer wings that sometimes catch the sun, making rainbows form. They dress like the elves, and almost no one who happens to travel into Rinara sees them. They don't like strangers too much, and let the elves take care of them. If a group of Darks happens to enter Rinara, the faeries carry the news to the nearest Rinaryn village.

You may ask 'What is the difference between faeries, nymphs, and sprites?' and indeed, I asked that for a long time. The answer I finally got was this. Faeries are actually 'big faeries', nymphs are water faeries, and sprites are little faeries. If someone disagrees with this or has something else to add, let me know. I'm sure you can find my e-mail address somewhere around here :).

Anyway, the Rinaran nymphs survey the water, and can spot a boat some distance away. If they do, they tell the faeries and the elves. Eventually the word gets to the Rinaryns. The Rinaran nymphs do not have wings, but they do very well without them. They have tamed several kinds of fish to carry them, and they can swim like a bullet.

The Rinaran sprites are the most playful of the fae people. They are only a little taller than two feet high, but they make up their small size in playful ideas and mischeif. They simply play all day long, but if there are any Darks around, they do take their part in the battle. They annoy the Darks and try to take their minds off the real danger. They are very effective at it, as well.

The Rinaran dryads, of course, live in the trees. They do not communicate much. They cannot leave the trees, but some of the sentient creatures on Rinara have a sort of bond with them. Through these creatures, the dryads can lead a normal life, simply by enjoying what the other creature is doing. However, there is one drawback to this arrangement. Whatever either creature feels, is felt by the others close by. For instance, say an elven boy shares a bond with the dryads. If he gets hurt, any trees nearby with a dryad living inside, hurts as well. They can die from the pain. However, if a tree with a dryad living inside it gets chopped down or hurt some way and is near the elven boy, he feels it. He could die from the pain as well. However, a dryad may lend strength to the boy or to his bow, or something made of wood.
