The Galoedin

The Galoedin are a race of technomages. They average about 7 to 8 feet in height, combining all the clans, and have been known to reach the age of a thousand. However, if they do not receive a special shot close around the time they turn 11, they will die horribly within a year. This shot stabilizes the mutation the Galoedin went through to gain the ability to receive and process the knowledge they have and to reach the height they stand at. It also helps with technological implants, which are usually implanted after they reach the Age of Responsibility.
There are 1o clans, and 3 sub-clans. These sub-clans don't follow the rules the others abide by, and are biologically different somehow. The sub groups are kind of renegade Galoedin, you might call them. All clans and sub-clans are ruled by the White Council, and members of these clans belong to different Orders. A technomage is born into a clan, but may choose his/her own Order.
Here is a list of the Clans and sub-clans of Galoedin, in order of rank, high to low. Some are equal in rank, and these are grouped together.

The Diamond Clan    (nicknamed the Mountain Clan)

The Quartz Clan
The Guardian Clan

The Transien Clan

The Citrine Clan
The Opal Clan
The Agate Clan

The Corundum Clan
The Topaz Clan
The Beryl Clan

Sub-clans

The Onyx Clan   (nicknamed the Onion Clan)
The Spinel Clan
The Pyrope Clan

Summaries of the Clans

The Diamond Clan is the tallest, and the leader of the clans, reaching about 10' in height. Most are of the White Order, the highest of technomages. The Diamond Clan settles disputes and decides many things, always seeking the protection of the Galoedin race, and then that of other tages, and then that of other peoples, lastly. These Galoedin have many representatives in the White Council of the Galoedin people.

The Quartz Clan is one of the most diverse, and has a reputation for keeping the other Galoedin clans on their toes. They also have the reputation of making trouble, accidentally or not. Milos, well known for his borderline trouble making, is of this clan. His father, Kemtos, along with a young tage of the Guardian Clan, Diryon, helped in the Breaking of the tages, as well as the Breaking of the Tower. These tages average 6 and a half feet in height.

The Guardian Clan is the Pyrope's partner in a sense. These high ranking tages act as guardians and defenders. Most of the time, when dealing with non tages, they may become invisible. Most of these Galoedins have deep hoods, obscuring their features in the darkness of their hoods, and they average about 6 and a half feet in height. All carry staffs, and are adept at them. The staffs only bear weapons for the purpose of defense and protection.

The Transien Clan is the traveling clan. These tages average about 6'4 in height, making them one of the shortest. The Transien clan travels in search of knowledge, and because of all their traveling, sometimes may seem not to be part of the Galoedin at all. The Transien Clan rarely sits on the White Council, and has been given nearly free reign by the White Council. In return, they report their findings to the White Council, and their knowledge is recorded, often for future reference. The Transien Clan is the most likely to be sent on any quests, and some can be quite radical in their ideas. All carry communication devices with them.

The Citrine Clan is the clan of the scientists, dealing with travel, technology, and a little of exploration. They build machines to help tages like those of the Transien clan move around quickly and easily. They are mechanics, physicists, and astronomers, as well as just all-around scientists. They average 6'8.

The Opal Clan is involved with physiology for humanoids and animals. They know many of the species alive from head to foot, inside and out. They work closely with all the clans, sharing their knowledge. Many books written by them are in the Libraries, available for consultation there. They average about 6'7 in height.

The Agate Clan deals with psychology, things of the spirit, dreams, and the interpretations of dreams. From this clan come Dreamers, who may be sent by the White Council to deal justice by tormenting a victim with bad dreams, or soothing an infant with joyful dreams. Many are apprehensive about this clan, for they tend to seem as if they're seeing all you've done in your life, and what you're planning when they look at you. They average about 7'1 in height.

The Corundum Clan is mostly involved in reconnaissance and covert operations for the White Council. They don't have much up front involvement with the White Council or the Galoedin society in general. Because the Transien Clan is mostly away from home, and the Guardian Clan specializes in defensive operations, the Corundum Clan are best suited for this. They have high knowledge of poisons, listening devices, all sorts of bombs and destructive weapons, and that sort of thing. The tages average 6'9 in height.

The Topaz Clan specializes in the gathering, preservation, and restoring of ancient artifacts and knowledge, dealing with archaeology and the delicate process of preserving books hundreds of years old. They average about 8 foot tall, and usually are found in libraries. They are some of the most intelligent tages, but also the slowest to come to conclusions. They are usually seen walking around in a daze, while they try to solve some problem that no one but they understand.

The Beryl Clan specializes in geology and metals. They build most of the buildings for the Galoedin, and terraform beautifully. These average about 6'9 in height.

The Pyrope Clan is the healer's clan and the smallest clan in number. These are about the only Galoedin tages to be healers. They average about 6'3 in height, and the shortest clan in height. The Pyrope Clan works with the Guardian Clan especially during Councils, to shield the area, and protect both the council members, and the object of the council.

The Onyx Clan is biologically different from other Galoedin. They can release a pheromone called trans-satisomin, which in short, makes the unfortunate victim cry. This gave them the nickname the Onion Clan. They are shorter, and average 6'5 in height.

The Spinel Clan is the most warlike. Kept in check by the White Council and the Diamond Clan, these tages love battle. They are very unpredictable, loving chaos. Most of the Galoedins are seriously thinking about excommunicating these trouble makers, or executing them. The Spinel Clan finds joy in making warriors of one side fight against each other during battles, and sometimes may cause small berserker rages. They are adept in all things concerning war, and none have sat on the White Council for many years, unless one of their own is the reason for the council. These tages average 8 foot in height.

Orders of Galoedin Tages

There are 12 orders of Galoedin technomages, named for colors, just as the clans are named for rocks and stones. A technomage, after they reach the age of responsibility, when they have enough knowledge and responsibility to carry on life by themselves (usually around 70 years old), can choose what order (excluding White and Grey) he/she will be a part of. From whatever that order is, they can be raised to Grey, and then to White. To be raised to Grey takes a 70% majority of the White Council. To be raised to White takes a 90% majority, and having spent at least 20 years as Grey. Here are the orders and what they specialize in.

White deal with government and justice
Grey a back-up to the White Order, keeping them in line
Green ancient knowledge and archaeology
Silver dreams, psycology, and spirit- work closely with Blue
Blue psychology, dreams and travel- work closely with Silver
Orange amassabor/diplomatic relations and gov recon
Brown physiology and cataloging races and species
Purple healing and medical research
Yellow exploration and defense, upkeep of living areas
Red war   (upkeep of living areas when punished)
Aqua celestial, weather, technology
Gold metal and geography, technology

The White Council

The White Council is above all Orders and Clans, and has representatives of all the clans, and all Orders seated on it at any one time. This Council is responsible for keeping the peace between Galoedins, settling arguements, and carrying out justice, as well as making and keeping the laws. The White Order has the majority of the people on the White Council, and the same goes for the Mountain clan (who usually end up in the White Order, anyway). The Council Chambers is a large room, with seated situated in circles, higher and higher, until they seem to disappear in the shadows of the usually dimly lit room. Light usually rests on a straight table where seven Galoedin sit, on the lowest tier. These are the leaders of the White Council at that point in time, and they do most of the talking. The person or persons in question (if the Council was convened to deal with a question of justice or the like) stand on the floor in front of the Table of Leaders, in a circle that glows with light, until justice is fulfilled.
The Grey Council
To say 'I am of the Grey Order' and be truthful about it, automatically means you are part of the Galoedin's Grey Council. This Council deals with the lesser problems of government and justice, and reviews all cases to make sure no laws were shirked or overlooked, and justice was fulfilled. Nine leaders are chosen at any one time, and these leaders (or a member of the White Council) may bring in to question any member of the Grey Order or Council. If the Council agrees there is a problem, that member may be kicked off the Grey Council, and out of the Order. Because of this, the Grey Council is usually smaller than the White Council. The Council Chambers are much like the White Council's Chambers, but smaller, with less tiers, and darker. There is no Table of Leaders- instead, there are nine circles on the floor, forming a larger circle, which radiate light when stood on by the person they're coded for. In the center of this circle of nine circles is one more circle, for the person(s) in question.

The Breaking of the Tower

The Breaking of the Tower was a dark spot in the history of the Galoedins. Diryon son of Teryon and Kemtos son of Miktan began the Breaking of the Tower when one of their usual pranks went wrong. A female technomage by name of Petula was the object of their prank, and she brought the matter to the White Council for the first time. Diryon and Kemtos, young boys at the time, soon found themselves in a heap of trouble. The White Council split, some siding angrily with Petula, who had blown the prank all out of proportion, and some sided with Teryon and Miktan, who argued the truth that the boys had done no harm. Non-Galoedin technomages took sides as well, and the Time of Madness began. In the Time of Madness, some implants began to malfunction, sending their tages into a craze. It killed many, and Petula and her supporters took advantage of this to turn it around and pin it on Diryon and Kemtos. The Time of Madness through many realms into chaos as tages crazed nations, planting seeds of distrust and causing many wars, some of which destroyed whole peoples and nations. The Non-Galoedin tages washed their hands of the whole thing, attempting to back out and deny their part in the chaotic time, and this resulted in the Breaking of the tages. With some of those tages, women and men split, and this finished the Breaking of the Tower, which had been a symbol of the unity of all technomages against those who distrusted and hated them.     Because of the Breaking of the Tower and the breaking of the tages, there is a rift between Galoedin tages and non-Galoedin tages- a rift of distrust, and sometimes even hatred. Most of the blame has been set on Kemtos and Diryon, though no one can say truthfully that the events were all their fault- they were simply the spark that lit the fire.

Schooling

When the Tower was still whole, before the breaking of the tages, the Tower was a center of knowledge. Other races sent young ones to go to the Tower and learn to be technomages. Those students, in their spare time helped with the upkeep up the Tower and the various other living areas of the Galoedin. After the breaking of the tages, this custom was dicontinued, and the Tower was abandoned at the Breaking of the Tower. However, sometimes, promising young ones are apprenticed to certain technomages to learn, and still help with the upkeep of the various living areas. The majority of the cleaning and upkeep is done by sophisticated robots, fashioned by the Yellow and Gold Orders and the Citrine clan.
